Chana dahl

A dahl which uses chickpeas instead of lentils.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Add the chickpeas, cassia stick, salt and water to a pot, simmer gently for one hour.
  2. Chop the onion and garlic.
  3. Fry the onion, garlic and ginger in ghee.
  4. In the meantime, add turmeric, coriander, cummin and chilli or cayenne pepper (to taste) to the pot.
  5. Once the onion, garlic and ginger are fried, add them to to the pot, including the remaining ghee from the frying pan.
  6. Add the garam masala and pepper to the pot, simmer for 15 minutes (or until chickpeas are soft).
  7. Serve with naan or rice.
