Chana dahl
A dahl which uses chickpeas instead of lentils.

Ingredients
- 1 cup chana dahl (split chickpeas)
- 4 cups water
- pinch of salt
- 1 cassia/cinnamon stick
- ghee
- 1 medium onion
- 1 tbsp garlic
- 1 tbsp ginger
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp ground coriander seed
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- chilli or cayenne pepper
- 2 tsp garam masala
- pepper
Instructions
- Add the chickpeas, cassia stick, salt and water to a pot, simmer gently for one hour.
- Chop the onion and garlic.
- Fry the onion, garlic and ginger in ghee.
- In the meantime, add turmeric, coriander, cummin and chilli or cayenne pepper (to taste) to the pot.
- Once the onion, garlic and ginger are fried, add them to to the pot, including the remaining ghee from the frying pan.
- Add the garam masala and pepper to the pot, simmer for 15 minutes (or until chickpeas are soft).
- Serve with naan or rice.
