Fruit crumble

A simple crumble, suitable for most slightly sour fruits (such as rhubarb, apples, gooseberries and so on), best served with custard or ice cream.

Instructions

  1. Place fruit in an overnproof dish with the sugar and a little water. Cover and bake for 30 minutes at 180 °C.
  2. Rub butter and flour together until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the caster sugar.
  3. Once the fruit has softened, add the crumble on top and smooth down.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown on top at 180 °C. Serve with ice cream or custard.
